About

You've found the personal blog of a 20-something, country music listen', "Dexter" watchin', animal lovin' girl from the lovely state of Maryland. Of course there's much more to me and if you stick around you'll see.

    Check It Out

Congrats To John Lithgow & Michael C. Hall!

I knew this would finally be the year for Michael C. Hall for his work on Dexter. This past season was amazing but it couldn’t have been done without another amazing actor, John Lithgow. He walked away with a Golden Globe as well for his work as The Trinity Killer. I’m a little disappointed that the show didn’t win but maybe next year.

I can’t wait for the next season of Dexter and here’s wishing Michael C. Hall a speedy recovery from his battle with cancer.

How To Be A Serial Killer

Interesting title right? Wouldn’t the idea make an interesting movie as well? You’re in luck then because it is a movie and it’ll be hitting DVD in October. Here’s some information about the movie:

How to Be A Serial Killer is the story of Mike Wilson, a charismatic, educated, and articulate young man who has found his life’s purpose in exterminating people. Mike is determined to spread his message about the joy of serial killing and recruits a lost soul named Bart to be his pupil. Mike leads Bart through the ethics of serial killing as well as teaching him various lessons in disposing corpses, balancing work and play, methods of killing, and many many more. Mike and Bart’s curriculum is interrupted when Mikes girlfriend discovers what’s beneath her boyfriend’s charming exterior and Mike and Bart must kill their way out of being discovered by the cops.

Matthew Gray Gubler from “Criminal Minds” plays Bart which is what got me excited about the movie in the first place. Ok, that and the idea behind the movie too. You got me. Dameon Clarke plays Mike Wilson and won Best Actor at the New York City Horror Film Festival. The movie was directed and produced by Luke Ricci.

It’s a shame movies like this don’t make it to the mainstream but maybe it’s better that way. Here’s the trailor for the film.

If you’d like to learn more you can follow them on Twitter, check them out on Facebook or visit the How To Be A Serial Killer website. Oh and if you’re in the San Diego area you can catch the premiere at the Gaslamp 15 starting July 24th! Matthew Gray Gubler will be on hand for a little Q&A after the film.

Touching Evil

I’m a huge “Burn Notice” fan and because of that I’m now a huge Jeffrey Donovan fan. That means I’ve been looking around the Internetz for other movies/shows he’s been in and that brought me to “Touching Evil.” It aired on the USA Network back in 2004 and only lasted a season. It’s a crime drama that reminds me a little of “Criminal Minds” mixed with some “CSI:.” Here’s a little more info:

Returning from a year-long psychological leave of absence after surviving an almost-fatal gun shut wound to the head, a detective is assigned to the FBI’s new Organized and Serial Crime Unit (OSCU), a rapid-response, elite crime investigation squad where he and his new OSC partner finds themselves committed to saving lives and solving cases. In spite of his inability to abide by common sense and the laws he’s sworn to uphold, he, with the help of his partner, work together to hunt down the most wicked and vicious criminals on the streets.

I’ve found it online and I’ve watched the first few episodes and I love it. Of course it’s right up my alley with the whole crime thing but I’m really surprised it only lasted a season. Maybe it was just “too dark” for 2004? Maybe it was just “too dark” for the USA viewing audience at the time? I have a feeling that maybe if this show was on another network, maybe CBS, it would’ve lasted a little longer. Sometimes a new show needs to partner up with a stable and proven show to help it pick up some speed. Then again maybe people just didn’t know about it. I don’t remember hearing anything about “Touching Evil” but then again I can’t remember WTF I was watching in 2004. Looking around online though it’s clear this show has a very strong cult following.

If you’d like to check it out here’s a part from the pilot episode. I believe the whole pilot is on Youtube if you look around for it.

If you’d like to know where I found the complete season just leave a comment and I’ll be sure to let you know!

Dear TV Big Wigs,

This may come as a shock to you but not everyone in America watches reality TV. I know, it’s shocking! It’s hard to imagine people don’t care about dancing “celebrities” or people being left in the middle of nowhere. I know it’s hard to believe that some people don’t give a ratass about families with 16 million kids or about the next hobag that some washed up rocker wants to “date.”

I’m tired of networks canning good shows and letting shitty shows stay on the air. Just today it’s been announced that “My Name Is Earl” is being cancelled meanwhile another season of “The Bachlorette” is just getting started. I’m sure we’ll see 10 more seasons of “Survivor” too and next season we’ll see more washed up stars trying to dance across the ballroom floor.

It’s not just reality shows that need to go. There are shows on TV right now that I have no idea how they’re still on. I don’t know one person who watches “Numbers” and I’ve had people admit that the only reason they watch “CSI: Miami” is because it’s a trainwreck of bad acting. Then you have shows that could be decent and good but they only get a handful of episodes and if they don’t bring in ratings right away, gone. They don’t even really get a fair chance! I don’t know about you out there but it takes awhile for me to warm up to a new show, especially when there are shows I watch pretty religiously.

Blah. Enough ranting and raving. Hopefully other networks pick up some of these decent shows that have been canceled.

“CSI” Needs To End

Yes, I said it! This is coming from a fan who’s watched since day one. Why do I think it needs to come to an end? They killed off “Warrick.” Yes, I understand he was having real life issues but you didn’t need to kill the guy. The bigger problem is that “Grissom” is leaving. You can’t have “CSI” without him! He IS “CSI.” He’s being replaced by Laurence Fishburne. I can deal with that, maybe, but I can’t deal with this crazy ass storyline:

Fishburne’s character has a deep connection to his work: His genetic profile has been identified in serial killers, CBS programming chief Nina Tassler said before Fishburne’s casting was announced but as rumors swirled.

Excuse me? What the hell? The whole reason people watch “CSI” is for the science. I know, DNA results don’t come back in a day but you know what I mean. Now they are pulling this out of their asses? Serial Killer DNA? Are you kidding me with this bullshit? If they went with something brain related I might be able to roll with it, but DNA? No. I can’t.

The producer had the nerve to say this:

“What makes shows go off the rails is they forget who they are. We’re a crime-mystery-forensics drama” and that won’t change, Shankar said in July.

I’m sorry but with this crazy ass storyline, you have already changed. You’re reaching for straws hoping something “different” will grab new viewers and keep the old. In the end, this is going to backfire.

Please, just put the show out of it’s misery.

Bernie Mac Has Passed Away

How sad. He was only 50 years old too!

Comic actor Bernie Mac died early Saturday of complications from pneumonia, according to a family member and his publicist. He was 50.

Bernie Mac, 50, had been hospitalized in his hometown, Chicago, with pneumonia.

He had been hospitalized in Chicago, Illinois, for more than a week with the lung infection.

Danica Smith, the comedian’s publicist, had said Thursday that Mac’s condition was “stable,” The Associated Press reported.

“When I got the call this morning, it was just devastating news,” said Chicago Sun-Times columnist Stella Foster. “Let’s face it: Bernie Mac was one of a kind. He was the best of the best in terms of giving you a good laugh.”

Smith previously said the pneumonia wasn’t related to sarcoidosis, a lung disease Mac had, which had been in remission since 2005, according to AP.

Mac caused a stir in July with some jokes he made during a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, AP reported.

Mac — born Bernard Jeffrey McCollough — starred in the Fox television series “The Bernie Mac Show.” His film roles included the “Ocean’s Eleven” series, “Friday,” “Get on the Bus,” “Transformers” and “Bad Santa

The Dark Knight

the-dark-knight-characters_472x312

I finally got around to seeing “The Dark Knight.”

I thought it was an action packed movie with some nice twists and turns. Heath as The Joker was pretty creepy and amazing. It’s sad that he won’t be able to continue the role. At this point, I can’t see any actor out there who would be able to fill his shoes as far as the character is concerned.

Bale is a fine Batman but I wish he’d work on his Batman voice a little bit. I swear I almost heard a lisp a few times when he spoke as the Caped Crusader. I almost liked him more when he played Bruce Wayne. I’d totally nail Bruce Wayne.

I thought Maggie G. was kinda forgetable. Katie Holmes played the character in “Batman Begins” and I thought she suited the role more. It’s a shame she turned down “The Dark Knight” for whatever reason. I thought Maggie looked old in some of the close ups. I just didn’t feel any chemistry between her and Wayne or Dent.

I thought the make up/special effects they did for Harvey Dent/Two Face was pretty fucking awesome. I actually gasped during the scene where he showed his face after his accident. I liked that it wasn’t cartoonish and was well, dark. That’s the whole point of the newer Batman movies right?

All in all I loved it.

Fear Itself

Has anyone been watching “Fear Itself” on Thursday nights? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s some info from NBC.Com:

“Fear Itself” is a provocative, new 13-episode suspense and horror anthology series set to push the boundaries of this classic genre through a host of provocative talent, both in front of and behind the camera, including award-winning, sought-after directors John Landis (“An American Werewolf in London”), Darren Bousman (“Saw II, III and IV”) and Ronny Yu (“Bride of Chucky”); actors Brandon Routh (“Superman Returns”), Shiri Appleby (“Charlie Wilson’s War”), Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”), Cynthia Watros (“Lost”), Eric Roberts (NBC’s “Heroes”) and John Billingsley (“Star Trek: Enterprise”); and writers, including Joe Gangemi (“Wind Chill,” the novel “Inamorata”), Steve Niles (“30 Days of Night”) and Dan Knauf (“Carnivàle,” “Supernatural”).

In short, each week features a new hour long short story. When the episode ends, that’s it. You don’t have to worry about catching every episode, getting attached to characters or any of that.

I’ve only caught 3 episodes and while I love the idea behind the show, what I’ve seen so far feels rushed. I feel they are trying to put too much into an hour. A co-worker suggested that because we’re used to shows that are season long and do spread themes/story lines out over X amount of episodes, that maybe we don’t know how to react or appreciate something that’s done in just an hour. While I can see where he’s coming from, there have been shows like this is the past that were well executed. “Tales From The Crypt” anyone? Perhaps the directors/writers don’t know how to make a good hour long story. I can imagine having all these ideas and being told to make it fit into an hour long show. You have to try and wrap up a complete story in 60 minutes. If you think about it, not even 60 minutes since you have 10 minutes or more of commercials.

Of course I could be judging the show/series prematurely since it’s 13 episodes and only 4 have aired. I really want this to succeed because I love the horror genre and it’s nice to see something on TV that’s not a reality show. I do hope they get away from the serial killer being the bad guy thing. I want to see demons and ghosts! I read about serial killers everyday, I want something different. Of course I’m sure the majority of the people out there don’t read about that topic everyday though…

Anyway, has anyone else watched “Fear Itself?” If you have, what do you think?

Dear “CSI” Writers/Producers,

Why? Why did ya’ll do that? :( I knew he was leaving but srsly?
