About

You've found the personal blog of a 20-something, country music listen', "Dexter" watchin', animal lovin' girl from the lovely state of Maryland. Of course there's much more to me and if you stick around you'll see.

Please Support Me!

I know I get annoying when the Maryland SPCA March for the Animals rolls around but it’s for a great cause. They really do depend on donations from the community to keep the place running. I’ve been taking part in this event for I believe 5 or 6 years now and every year it gets bigger and better. This year Duff Goldman is the Master of Ceremonies. You know him as the guy from “Ace of Cakes.”

I know that times are tough and it that you might not believe that even a dollar helps but it does. I appreciate every donation no matter how big or small it is and I know the Maryland SPCA does. Last year my Pack was able to raise $2,518! Isn’t that amazing? This year I hope to be able to raise $3,000. $1,000 of that is my own personal goal. Please, if you have an extra $5 laying around consider making a donation. If you can’t please just spread the word and share the link. Just imagine the money that could be raised if every person donated $5 and then challenged a friend to match that donation. It adds up quickly!

Again, I thank everyone who’s made a donation this year and in the past. I thank everyone who’s spread the word and helped out. Events like this prove just how wonderful and giving the Internet can really be!

Already Raised $155!

I’ve already raised $155 for the Maryland SPCA! I only signed up about a month ago. My personal goal is $1,000 and the team goal is $3,000. If you’d like to make a donation just go here. The March for the Animals is on April 18th which means you have plenty of time to make a donation. If you’re not able to donate please help spread the word! The MD SPCA depends on donations from the community to keep things going.

If you’ve already donated I thank you! It means a lot and every little bit does help!

It’s That Time: 2010 MD SPCA March

Yup. It’s that time of the year again. It’s time for me to start bugging people about donating/supporting me during this years Maryland SPCA March for the Animals.

The event will be on April 19th. Once again I started a team and our goal is $3,000. That’s about half of what the winning team raised last year. My personal goal is only $300. I’m trying to focus more on ways that the team can raise money instead of just myself. Remember, there is no “I” in team!

If you’d like to donate you can visit this link. Remember that every little bit helps and if you can’t donate please feel free to spread the word. The more people that know the more money that can be raised to help the animals at the Maryland SPCA.

Help Me Help The Maryland SPCA

It’s almost that time. Pretty soon the 2010 Maryland SPCA March For The Animals will be here. I know times are a little tough for people that’s why I’m making it even easier to help. I’m collecting old cell phones, laptops, digital cameras, MP3 players & more in order to raise money for the walk. I found a company called Ecophones that helps recycle unwated items. The best part is in exchange for sending them junk they send out a check! See, told you it was easy. I’m sure plenty of you have unwanted cell phones laying around. I know at one point I had three old cell phones laying around the house. The best part is they’ll give you something for everything you send them, even if the item is broken or isn’t listed on their website.

If you want to see what they accept and the pricelist you can find that here. Please feel free to email me at deargoodbyeATgmailDOTcom for more info or just leave a comment and I’ll be sure to get back to you! I know I can make this huge if everyone spreads the word or just sends in one item!

If you don’t have anything to send in that’s ok too! You can help by spreading the word on your own blog, twitter or FB. Let’s make this big and really help the animals at the Maryland SPCA!

Send Me Your Junk!

I’m collecting old cell phones, ipods, MP3 players, laptops, digital cameras and more to earn money for the Maryland SPCA. How it works is I collect all your junk, I send it to Ecophones and they send me a check. Sounds easy enough.

I don’t need SIM cards or chargers. The items don’t even have to work but obviously we get more money if they do. You can see what we can earn and what they’ll accept at their website. I’ll be collecting items until January/February. Please spread the word and maybe even start up a collection of your own. I’ll help pay for shipping in order to get it to me.

This is just one fundraiser I’m doing for the 2010 (2010 OMG!) Maryland SPCA March for the Animals. If you’d like more info feel free to contact me!

Collecting Old Cells, iPods & More

I know it’s still 2009 but that doesn’t mean I can’t start raising money for the 2010 (OMG, 2010?!) March for the Animals.

Seriously, it’s super easy for everyone involved, even you. I’ll be collecting old cell phones, iPods and even digital cameras and laptops in order to raise money for the MD SPCA. I found a website called Ecophones who pay people for their old items. I’ve actually used a website like this before for personal use and it worked fine. All I have to do is collect everything and ship it off to them. They even pay for the shipping! Sure, some stuff is only worth $5 but seeing how this doesn’t cost anyone anything, I’ll take it. They even take broken items!

If you’d like to send me your old stuff please leave a comment or email me at deargoodbyeATgmailDOTcom. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Please spread the word around too. The more items I send in the more money can be made for the Maryland SPCA. If you need help with shipping items to me let me know and I’d be happy to help out with the shipping costs!

Thanks!

Thank You!

The 2009 Maryland SPCA March for the Animals was an awesome success! There were tons of people there and of course, tons of dogs. I saw everything from Great Danes to Eskimo Dogs. There were big dogs, small dogs and some of the smallest dogs I’ve ever seen. There were dogs that could’ve easily passed as a small pony. Duff from “Ace of Cakes” (owner of Baltimore’s Charm City Cakes) was on hand to cut the starting line ribbon and to judge some of the events. The Food Network was even there filming! How awesome is that? Hopefully it’ll translate into some donations once the episode airs. As always Frisbee Dogs were on hand showing off their stuff. This year they had three, yes three, German Shepards. Let me tell you, for being big dogs they sure did get some air! It was wild to see. Here are some pictures from the event, as promised.

Of course the day couldn’t have been a success if it wasn’t for the donations that were received. I want to thank everyone who donated! It really does go to a great cause and is greatly appreciated. If it weren’t for the people who support the people out there like myself, these events wouldn’t be nearly as great. I thank anyone who just gave kind words in support and helped spread the word. I don’t see what I do as something amazing or great but when I read comments from some of you who tell me it is, it really does touch my heart. It’s nice to know other people out there appreciate what I do for the MD SPCA.

Of course I know you’re wondering just how much my team was able to raise. This year our grand total is…

$2,638

Again, I thank everyone who helped out this year!

“Anything for the puppies!”

I heard that numerous times last night at the last fundrasier that my team had for the Maryland SPCA. We had one last fundraiser at a local bar and had a pretty awesome turn out. We received $128 just in donations! Once again we sold some MD SPCA shirts, calendars and bracelets. We actually sold out of the calendars. I’m not surprised though, it’s the cutest calendar ever. As far as sales, we made $185 for a grand total of $313 raised at the fundraiser!

As I write this (type this?) we’re sitting at $2,533! How fantastic is that? I want to thank everyone who donated, shared the link or just wished us luck. It’s all very much appreciated! Since the March fo the Animals is this Sunday I’m leaving this post up until then incase anyone wants to make some last minute donations. You can do that here. It’s a safe and secure website!

Once again I want to thank everyone! You guys are awesome! The money you donated will make a huge difference for the animals at the Maryland SPCA.

$242.74 Away From $2,000!

Can you believe it? My MD SPCA March team is only $242.74 away from hitting the $2,000 mark! How exciting and awesome is that? We still have one more fundraising event on the 16th and I’m hoping that if we don’t hit $2K by then, we will after the event.

I can’t believe it’s right around the corner. Seriously, it’s only 11 days away! If you’d like to donate you can via this link. All the money raised goes towards the Maryland SPCA. They don’t receive any funding from outside sources and depend soley on donations to keep the place running. Know that you’re donation really does make a difference!

I thank everyone in advance and I thank everyone who’s already donated! I really appreciate it!

Edit: As of 4/13 we’re now only $117.74 away from $2,000!

Yet Another Fundraiser

That’s right. I’ve already scheduled another fundraiser for the MD SPCA. This one is at the bar I go to after softball. It’s pretty much like the Pizza Hut event except we earn 15% no matter what and we get the check the next day. The event is on April 16th. If any of you reading this are from the Baltimore area and would like more information please let me know. If you’re on Facebook you can do a search for MD SPCA and it should be the first or second event to show up.

I’m hoping to make this one huge. I’m going to go around the area with a fellow Pack Member and hand out flyers to some local businesses. It doesn’t hurt to ask right? You never know unless you try. There are a ton of dealerships in the area and I’m hoping to hit some of them up. There are a good amount of small, local places too not to mention a Target and Walmart that I hope will let us put a flyer up.

This is our last big fundraiser before the March on the 19th. Hopefully it’ll pay off! If you’d like to help you can donate here.
